The leaves have all but given in to the change of season, when greens fade to golds and crimson, gusts of wind slowly stripping trees naked, as the prospect of winter is crisp on the horizon, evident by the bite of cold present in the sunny air. Fires begin to emerge as people gather round, candles lit, and cozy up to the scents of ginger, clove, and fresh-picked apples. Fall is officially here. If you can, take a day to go apple-picking while the weather is still enjoyable and use your harvest to create this brew.
12 apples, juiced
2 large ginger roots, juiced
1 orange, studded with cloves
6 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp nutmeg
1/3 cup honey
2 cups bourbon
Place apple and ginger juice in large crockpot, turned on Medium heat. Add the orange, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and honey and let heat. Add the bourbon and stir when ready to serve. Serve in a copper mug (optional) and garnish each cocktail a cinnamon stick.
Serves 4 for cocktails.
