Neighborhood we love: Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Have you been to Brooklyn lately!?? If not, you must go to Williamsburg and check out Apparis’ goodies in person at the new pop-up shop!  Grab some friends and DO make a day out of it.  Follow this guide below to keep Frenchy on the mind and immerse yourself in a full day, “Apparis-girls style”.

Getting off the L train in Williamsburg (take the North Driggs Avenue exit), you will run right into our first stop, Whoops! Bakery, a New York based franchise that still home-makes their products like a small Parisian Patisserie, though their macarons can now be found across the country.  This With an abundance of macaron flavors, like Honey Lavender and Key Lime Pie, eclairs, and espresso, you can start the day with some sugar and caffeine, enjoyed seated in one of the cute little tables around the bakeshop.

If you’re craving something heartier to start your morning, head to Five Leaves, a short walk away, on the other side of McCarren Park.  Sitting on the corner across from the park, its a people watching hub and a fun place to socialize. The spot isn’t the biggest, famous for its previous owner, Heath Ledger, but you won’t be disappointed by the menu; you’ll see a lot of avocado toast plated on the patio, along with creative takes on such classics as Quiche, Cereals, Scrambles and Egg Sandwiches, along with so many other menu items that will make anyone’s mouth water.  A bit French, a bit American, a bit of inspiration from here and there, but always delicious.

Now that bellies are satisfied, its time to head to Bedford Avenue to say Bonjour to Apparis’ new Pop-up!  Step into Paris as you admire the designers in person, definitely try some stuff on, relish, feel pretty, and spoil yourself like a true Parisian!

Its shopping time, so to continue this spree, next head down Sixth Street towards the water and stop into Artists+Fleas, a gold mine for finding all kinds of goods from local creators.  Fun to just browse, get inspired, and meet some of the vendors.

Keep walking towards Kent Avenue and stop in for a refreshing hand-made Ice Cream at Odd Fellows and enjoy it by the water.  Take in the fresh air and great views.

After that small rest and sugar boost, head back towards Bedford and check out Mother of Junk on Driggs Avenue.  Great vintage finds and big in the home goods department.

You’ve shopped all morning and now you’re about to drop, the stomach is almost ready for le Dejeuner and energy levels are slowly fading.  With so many options to choose from its hard to pick just one place.  Lucky for you, we don’t have to.

If you want a long, loungey lunch, heated by the sunshine above, find Juliette, just off Bedford Avenue; a nostalgic, Parisian-inspired cafe, beautiful and elegant, with fancy interiors and simple foods that pack flavor and freshness.  If its a nice day you can’t miss their rooftop dining/bar!  One of the best outdoor spots in the area.  I recommend the Duck Confit Salad, served with a crisp Rose, one of many French wines on the menu.

If you’re in Williamsburg on a Saturday and want to walk around while you eat, tasting all kinds of treats and taking in the view by the water, definitely check out Smorgasburg, the outdoor food market, running April through October.

Don’t want a long lunch but also don’t want to be on your feet and still seeking a classic French lunch?  Why not grab a crepe!  Pates et Traditions offers a classic French menu, with a whole page of crepe fillings to choose from.   A tiny spot, but very accommodating and offering outdoor seating.

Vegan but still craving crepes? Not to worry!  Little Choc Apothecary has just the thing as the first 100% Vegan Crepe shop in New York City.  Or even if you’re not seeking Vegan options still check this place out because its delicieux!

You’re done shopping, lunch wasn’t too long ago and you’re starting to feel lethargic again.  Check out Modo Yoga for an emergency pick-me-up, where you can get a sweat-on, calm the mind and even shower and blow-dry your hair, leaving feeling refreshed and renewed, ready to hit the streets once again.

Not feeling Yoga but still want something to do to fill a few hours?  Check out the Brooklyn Art Library, the Williamsburg Art+Historical Center, take a tour of the Brooklyn Brewery, or you can always go lounge in McCarren park and soak up some rays.

Its not yet dinner, and you’re starting to want something satisfying.  Built in an old factory on the waterfront, the Whythe Hotel can offer specialty cocktails with some of the best Manhattan skyline views around at it’s Ides Bar. The perfect spot for a pre-dinner Aperitif.  Note that it is now a tip-free bar like in France, all gratuity is already included in the prices as listed.

Finally, dinner has arrived!  The place for fancy French fare, modern yet classic, is Maison Premiere.  If the weather allows, you cannot miss the back garden!  A magical place overgrown with plants and twinkling lights.  And if you’re in the area, check out their pop-up event with live music and specialty food/drinks, next week, September 25th.

Make the most of your day and enjoy every moment!

Bon Weekend!
