The time of year has arrived and ended yesterday night, where celebrities and film fanatics alike flock to Cannes, France, for this year’s 70th annual Film Festival. For about ten days the festival had been taking place, screening movies from around the world, and placing some of the world’s most creative and talented minds, from the experienced to the novice, together in one place, to compete for highest honors.
You will find films that make you think and contemplate the world in ways that push all kinds of boundaries, themes, and cultures. Some familiar faces in the festival include Kirsten Dunst, who burst into tears on the red carpet (view here), Joaquin Phoenix, starring in Lynne Ramsay’s dark thriller (view here), and Elizabeth Olsen, showing off her survival skills in the wild in a murder-mystery thriller (view here). Also don’t forget to check out the Short Films series featured in the festival, as well as some movies presented “Out of Competition”, but still stirring up lots of talk, like long-time Festival-winner director Roman Polanski’s new film, D’après une histoire vraie (Based on a True Story).
Yesterday, Sunday 28th May, was the last day of the festival and there were re-screenings of all 18 movies left in competition, played throughout many theaters in Cannes. The evening surmised in the live broadcasting of the Award Ceremony from the Debussy Theatre.
